Volunteering

VIRTUS is designed to educate the attendee regarding issues surrounding sexual abuse. Volunteers with OLMC must attend a training class. Classes can be found on virtus.org. When you register, be sure to designate Our Lady of Mount Carmel as your parish. We will be able to verify your attendance this way

Once you have completed VIRTUS training, you will receive monthly bulletins with articles which require answering one question. To stay current as a VIRTUS volunteer you'll need to read and complete the bulletins.

Once you are registered on VIRTUS, you can easily complete your background check by logging in to your VIRTUS account, going to the "toolbox" tab, and clicking on "selection.com background check" link and follow the prompts to enter your information. You will pay a one-time fee of $25 to conclude the process and your status will show "approved" once the check is complete. You do not need to send anything to the school or follow up once it's complete.

Three forms must be completed and turned in to OLMC:

1. OLMC Uncompensated Volunteer Form
2. Policy for the Protection of Children in Matters of Child Sexual Abuse
3. Standards of Conduct in Ministry

(The Diocese requires all volunteers to read and acknowledge forms 2 and 3)
